Given that Phuket is an island, it's amazing how few properties are located on the beach. There are many properties that are "just a five minute walk to the beach" or "a quick drive to the beach" but ours are literally on-the-beach. Our luxury homes are nestled between coconut palms in Phuket's stunning and exclusive Cape Panwa - a very secluded and luxurious development that was completed in Summer 2007. We have 4 stylish beach homes for you to choose.

Two of our homes have 4-bedrooms and two have 3-bedrooms. These can sleep a maximum of 9 and 7 adults respectively. All bedrooms are en-suite, furnishings are modern and stylish and, life is generally very easy.

Each of our homes is perfectly designed for al-fresco living; beautifully appointed and cooled by gentle sea breezes. The views over Panwa's tropical bay are particularly breathtaking and can be admired from every room of every home

By The Sea, Ao Yon, Panwa Bay
We stayed only one night in By the sea, when traveling from Koh Samui to Koh Lanta, via Phuket. Our room was comfortable and clean, and the hotel area and small beach in front of it seemed to be nice, too. We would recommend this hotel to families; you have the alternativity to occationally make your own dinner or do the laundry by yourselves. The hotel is a bit far from the more crowded center, but for quiet staying that is not bad at all!

Koh Phangan

Written by Sailom on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 4:57 AM

Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan has been known throughout Thailand for a long time. Koh Phangan has been a popular destination for many kings of Thailand since the end of the 19th century. One of Thailand's most highly revered kings, King Chulalongkorn, or Rama V, visited the island not less than fourteen times between 1888 and 1909. His favourite place was Than Sadet or "The Royal Stream" as he named it. His name is carved in the rocks and can still be seen today.

However, the history of Koh Phangan dates back much longer than that. The Bronze Drum of the Dongson Culture (500 BC-100 BC) that was found in Koh Samui in 1977 is evidence that there were settlements of people on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan more than 2000 years ago. Some historians and archeologists believe that the first group who migrated to Koh Phangan were the Muslim Sea Gypsies (Pigmy, Semung and Proto-Malay) who traveled by boat from the Malay Peninsula.

Koh Phangan

About 200 hundred years ago Chinese migrants from Hainan came to settle in Koh Phangan. They first earned their living by fishing and later also from the tin mines in Thong Nai Pan and Sri Thanu. Laem Son Lake is one of the old mines that was used until the 1960's. The coconut industry was another important source of income for the island. Coconuts and coconut oil was shipped to Bangkok and other areas around Thailand. In the reign of King Chulalongkorn, a royal officer reported that 300 families lived on Koh Phangan and most of them were Thai and Chinese.

Koh Phangan was under Chaiya administration until 1897 when it became a sub-district of Koh Samui for 63 years before being upgraded to a district in 1970 with 3 of its own sub-districts.

Koh Phangan

The big change on Koh Phangan started after the first bungalows were built to welcome foreign tourist travelers about 20 years ago. The islanders changed their ways of life to grow with the tourist industry. Koh Phangan has become a very popular destination for visitors to Thailand, and more and more tourists are finding their way here every year.

The name of Koh Phangan comes from the word "Ngan" (meaning sand bar) as there are many sand bars offshore around the island. These sand bars can be seen at low-tide and they protect the island from the strong monsoon.

Wat Phra Kaew, Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Written by Sailom on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 7:14 PM

Wat Phra Kaew

Wat Phra Kaew (วัดพระแก้ว), the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and the adjoining Grand Palace together form perhaps the greatest spectacle for the visitor to Bangkok. Despite the fact that the whole compound is so full of tourists you spend half the time trying to avoid getting in people's photos, it's still a pretty amazing place to visit.

It consists of over 100 brightly colored buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics, and dates back to 1782, when Bangkok was founded. When you enter the compound, you first of all see Wat Phra Kaew and the nearby attractions, and then move on to the Grand Palace afterwards.

Wat Phra Kaew itself, generally known to the Thais as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, is perhaps the main attraction. This is Thailand's most important and sacred temple, so you're expected to act with due respect inside it. It houses the tiny (between 60 and 75 cm) Emerald Buddha, which is located high above the heads of the worshippers and tourists. Not much is known for certain about the statue, except that it isn't actually made of emerald but rather of green jade or jasper. Getting a good look at it is difficult as photography is forbidden inside the temple, and it's perched so high up inside it's glass box that it's difficult to really see.

Songkran Festival

Songkran Festival

Songkran Festival
(Thai New Year)

Songkran is a Thai traditional New Year which starts on April 13 every year and lasts for 3 days. Songkran festival on April 13 is Maha Songkran Day or the day to mark the end of the old year, April 14 is Wan Nao which is the day after and April 15 is Wan Thaloeng Sok which the New Year begins. At this time, people from the rural areas who are working in the city usually return home to celebrate the festival. Thus, when the time come, Bangkok temporarily turns into a deserted city.

Songkran is a Thai word which means "move" or "change place" as it is the day when the sun changes its position in the zodiac. It is also known as the "Water Festival" as people believe that water will wash away bad luck.

The Songkran tradition is recognized as a valuable custom for the Thai community, society and religions. The value for family is to provide the opportunity for family members to gather in order to express their respects to the elders by pouring scented water onto the hands of their parents and grandparents and to present them gifts including making merits to dedicate the result to their ancestors. The elders in return wish the youngsters good luck and prosperity.
